# Authentication

> Authenticate every DeFi Orbit API request with a bearer API key.

Every request needs your organization's API key:

```
Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
```

A request without that header is rejected.

## Key format

Keys are `do_sk_` plus 24 base62 characters (`A–Z`, `a–z`, `0–9`). Example shape: `do_sk_` followed by 24 characters. The total length is 30 characters.

Create and revoke keys under [API Keys](https://platform.defiorbit.xyz/dashboard/keys). Creating a key returns the full value. While the key is active, any member of the organization can reveal it again from that page. A revoked key cannot be revealed.

The dashboard list shows a prefix (`do_sk_` plus the first 8 random characters) and masks the rest.

## Where the key is checked

The key selects the organization. Credits are spent from that organization's balance, and the organization's rate limit applies. See [Credits](/credits) and [Errors and rate limits](/errors).
